debate. mitt romney was too hot, barack obama was too cold, but i don't think barack obama splattered on the canvass. i think he did okay and he was very sort of methodical and purposesorial which is the way he is. he came across with the way people expect him to be without the sense of humor he tends to show in the public. i thought mitt romney was too aggressive with the moderator. i thought he came away like a bully. the only take away people came away from the debate was big bird. usually in marketing, that is a fail. >> i would disagree. i don't think mitt romney was too aggressive. i think he played it very well for himself. he gave space with the moderator to let the people on stage talk. he was willing at every opportunity to get in that extra comment and to almost always even display his own policy and attack obama. i don't think obama did anything catastrophic, he wasn't as on and romney really was. >> i think as a professor, i sort of -- it was nice that we had a wonkish debate with numbers. i wish the numbers were a little more accurate. >> that's a problem, right. i found

've been calling mitt romney a liar, falsehood for the last 48 hours after the debate. >> okay. but you don't have any independent evidence, you didn't get evidence between the time the numbers came out this morning at 8:30 and 8:35 when you tweeted. you didn't use that five minutes to gather any actual information or evidence -- >> no. >> -- that there was corruption in these numbers? >> chris, i tweeted last night that i predicted it would be at 7.9. >> okay. and why did you make that prediction? >> because i guessed that's what would happen a month before the election. >> you guessed that the chicago guys would do this? >> well, i don't want to put words in the mouth of what i said last night. but that's what i did. >> well, this morning, i just -- let's go over the tweet one more time. allen west and some of the real screwballs out there are following the band you're leading and the banned you put together is that there's corruption here, the chicago people, the guys around president obama got to the bls and manipulated the numbers. >> chris, stop it now. i've reviewed 14 businesses thi

underwhelming performance in wednesday' debate. and bad news for mitt romney, and his conspiracy-minded supporters on the republican right. more on that in a moment. according to the bureau of labor statistics, unemployment dropped to 7.8% last month down .3 of a percent since august. employers added 114,000 new jobs. including 104 in the private sector and 10,000 in the public sector which had seen months of steady decline. in july's number revised to 181,000 with an additional 40,000 new jobs. president obama shared the news with a cheering crowd at a campaign appearance in fairfax virginia. >> obama: this morning we found out that the unemployment rate had fallen to its lowest level since i office. but today's news certainly is not an excuse to try to talk down the economy to score a few political points. it's a reminder that this country has come too far to turn back now. >> eliot: not if you're mitt romney. the g.o.p. contender talked down the jobs numbers and the economy at an abingdon, virginia, rally. >> romney: there were fewer new jobs created this month than last month

, or i should say two and a half weeks after that tape surfaced, governor romney went on fox news, where sean hannity asked how he would have answered if the tape came up during wednesday's debate. here's part of his answer. >> clearly in a campaign with hundreds, if not thousands of speeches and question and answer sessions, now and then you're going to say something that doesn't come out right, in this case i said something that's just completely wrong. >> he said completely wrong. now, keeping them honest, that's completely weird, mainly because the night the tape aired, mr. romney rushed to a microphone to defend, defend his 47% remarks and he kept defending them, he and his supporters, for days after that. >> well, you know, it's not elegantly stated, let me put it that way. i'm speaking off the cuff in response to a question and i'm sure i could state it more clearly and in a more effective way. >> the point of all of this is that the size of government is too big, and if we don't do something about it, we're going to really lose the very idea of america. >> those that are dependen

. snafulogagous. you heard that mitt romney wants to get rid of federal funding for pbs. it came up in the debate. there's been a lot of talk about a certain big bird since then. >> i'm going to stop the subsidy to pbs. i like pbs. i like big bird. i actually like you too but i'm not going to keep on borrowing money from china to pay for it. >> don't worry. somebody's finally getting tough on big bird. elmo, you better make a run for it. governor romney is going to let wall street run wild again but he's going to bring the hammer down on sesame street. >> first of all, full disclosure, i know big bird. i'm sorry to be a name dropper but it's true. not like i go to dinner with him. i don't want to overstate it. i haven't been over to his nest for drinks or anything. but i have gone to his workplace. >> this is anderson cooper in for oscar, the grouch who's on assignment at the dump. i'm here with two legendary grouch newscasters, dan rather not and walter cranky to discuss today's letter in the news. the letter g. say hello, dan rather not. >> i would rather not. >> i wonder what dan rather not is

debates, we have a chance for mitt romney to set a different impression with the american people than he's been able to do so far. who knows what president obama will do and what events are happening in the world. but i'm not sure other than some tightening from a little surge that obama had which i think is receding a little bit, i'm not sure what nate is talking about. >> john, you wrote a column that talks about the debates and the impact of the debates traditionally. and made the case that traditionally it makes very little impact. >> there are many individual moments that make an impression. but to fundamentally change where a race is going is very rare and you need a combination of events. the example that i used in that piece, andrew, was 2000, al gore had a lead of about what president obama has now entering the debates against george w. bush. he had a reputation as a strong debater. his body language was off, he was condescending to bush. bush was surprisingly well performed and personable. you had the bush campaign take advantage of some mistakes that gore made in the debate. a

romney in the debate talked about how dodd-frank has created too big to fail banks. you believe there's a negative side chairing that committee with regard to insurance companies. we don't have very much time. maybe you can quickly give us -- >> the banks that are too big to fail have really -- have special status and guarantee and would help if they go under. i'm afraid that the insurance companies have gotten into this too, whether they have to pay for whatever might happen. insurance had nothing to do with the bailout. i nene bailout -- >> it's unfortunate we have to go. but it was aig and aig's problem wasn't traditional insurance it was derivatives. >> a few moments left in the trading week for europe. we'll get the close in about three minutes. don't go anywhere. h management m and the world's only tridion safety cell which can withstand over three and a half tons. small in size. big on safety. like in a special ops mission? you'd spot movement, gather intelligence with minimal collateral damage. but rather than neutralizing enemies in their sleep, you'd be targeting stocks to t
